Supervisor Phillip Peters

District 1 Kern County

Phillip lives in Bakersfield with his wife Brittany and son Michael. He is a lifelong resident of Kern County and has always been passionate about serving the community. As a small business owner with a background in the oil industry, he knows the many challenges local businesses continually face, and continues to stand up for the industries that make Kern County such a unique and wonderful place to live and work. Phillip has served on multiple boards, including the Kern Community Law Enforcement Foundation, Kern County Oil Contractors Association, Sierra Nevada Conservancy, California School Boards Association, Workforce Investment Board, Kern County Young Republicans, and a as a delegate to the CAGOP.

In 2014, Phillip decided to put his experience to work by running for the Board of Trustees of the Kern High School District, the largest non-unified school district in California. He was elected, becoming at the age of 26 the youngest person ever to serve on the board. He has worked in both the ag and oil industries, and has written multiple published articles on topics ranging from water and oil issues to labor and education. In 2016, he was named one of the “Top 20 Under 40 People to Watch” by Bakersfield Life Magazine. Currently, he co-owns Williams Cleaning Systems, and serves as the District Director for Kern County First District Supervisor Mick Gleason.

While working for Supervisor Gleason, Phillip worked to support Kern County businesses and residents. From the military and aerospace industries, to ag and oil, he has continuously partnered with industry leaders to understand the diversity of each region in this geographically large district, and has remained committed to bridging the gap between East and West Kern. When Supervisor Gleason decided not to seek re-election, Phillip felt it would be a great opportunity to continue the work being done for the last several years. He won the March 3rd, 2020 primary, besting two other candidates with 52.24% of the vote. As a result of receiving over 50% of the vote in the primary, he was considered officially elected and did not appear on the November general election ballot. Phillip will assumed office January 4th, 2021 and became Chairman of the Board in his first year.

Phillip continues to proudly represent the First District, which is largely made up of the north-east quadrant of Kern County, encompassing Ridgecrest, the Kern River Valley, Glennville, and portions of Bakersfield.
